September 16, 17, and 18.
It has been an action packed few weeks. We decided to drive to a place where we could lay back and rest for a few days.
We had visited Tybee Beach and Savannah about 30 years ago and it seemed like the perfect place to relax for a few days. When the people of Savannah and Georgia want to go to a beach they go to Tybee Beach. It is about a 30 minute drive from Savannah. We found a small older motel and our unit had a living room and kitchen.
We spent a very beautiful day in the historical city of Savannah. The plantation owners would bring their cotton or rice to be sold in the port and then put on ships. The river is a sheltered harbour and warehouses were built on the banks. Goods for auction could be brought into the warehouse on the top floor, auctioned, then lowered to the bottom floor and loaded onto ships. The plantation owners built beautiful homes near the warehouse area. The city is designed with many small and large squares where these houses are located.
The large Live Oak Trees with the Spanish Moss are beautiful.
Bev and Pete, our friends from Zihuatanejo, were driving from Florida back to their home on the Outer Banks of North Carolina and we arranged to meet them in Savannah.
It was great to see them again. We spent a fun afternoon and dinner in the Riverbank District where the warehouses have been converted into trendy shops and restaurants.
We look forward to seeing Bev and Pete again in Zihuatanejo for more crazy times.
