The Lulls

August 31st- Sept 5

Jim and Sis Lull

We arrive in Gilbertsville, the most gorgeous, quaint, manicured hamlet in New York state.

The Majors Inn is the show place of the town although it is certainly challenged for that title by all of the beautiful homes.

We quickly catch up with the Lulls. Jim and I figure out that we have been friends for longer than we care to admit... over 40 years!! Jim and I met at Marshall's Guesthouse in Great Exuma, Bahamas. Five years later Jim telephoned me to say that he and his new bride Sis were in Toronto. I insisted that they checkout of their hotel and come and stay with me. Will and I have been going to visit them in Gilbertsville for over 30 years and over the years we have met and made friends with many, many people. Nathan was born a few months after Clayton and we were asked to be his God Parents. This was probably a bad choice on their part but an honour for us.

There is not much you can say or do to surprise these folks since they know us so well. Nate arrived home on Friday night from Buffalo, where he and his girlfriend Miranda live, to attend the weekend festivities. We have a great evening catching up with him and hearing about his new sports broadcasting job on WGR Sports radio.

They inform us that this weekend is a superb time to be there since it is another mutual friend’s Tim Rendo’s 60th birthday. Jim's family home was across the street from Tim's home and they have been friends ever since they were old enough to climb the fence to play. Tim and his lovely wife Terry planned a huge surprise party for him which of course we crashed!

Also, other friends, George and Gert are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary.

George and Gert - They play Mr. & Mrs. Santa Claus during the winter in Florida

Their kids, who are also friends, have another huge party planned, which of course, we also crashed!

Kim has done a smashing job of setting up this exquisite party for 100 plus guests, at a local park. Non-stop food, beer and wine.....Steamed clams, a nacho table that could have passed for dinner, grilled corn on the cob, steak, shrimp skewers, salads, cupcakes!!!!!! OMG everything was so delicious.

Thanks to Jim, Sis, Nate and everyone in Gilbertsville and the Butternut Valley for a wonderful visit.

Monday morning we pack up and head south to New Jersey.
