Neil Everton and Halina St. James

August 23 to August 26
This is the response from Neil after the blog titled "Friday, August 5, 2011" and "Tired & Waiting".

"Oh Gawd... just read the latest blog... does that mean two cranky, exhausted, worried, racked-with-angst characters are heading our way? Do we need to arrange therapists, counselors? Do we need to hide sharp objects? Do we need more booze?"

We drive near Halifax and onto the highway that leads toward Peggy's Cove. Neil and Halina live on Sheep's Head Island in St Margaret's Bay. We drive across the small causeway to the island and find their home which faces a small ocean bay
and is surrounded by gardens, gardens and more gardens filled with an array of the most beautiful flowers, grasses and trees.
We met Neil and Halina in Zihuatanejo, Mexico and spent many memorable times with them on our last trip.

Neil and Halina met when she was a foreign correspondent for the CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corp.) and he was a foreign correspondent for the BBC (British Broadcasting Corp.). They moved to Nova Scotia 18 years ago when Halina was offered a position with the CBC News Network.
We had a meal of delicious, Atlantic salmon on the deck and in their park like gardens. Great food, wine and good new friends.

It is always nice to spend time with people who love where they live and Neil and Halina are fabulous tour guides. Over the next 2 days we went up and down the many inlets and coves of the Nova Scotian shore.

They took us to a remote area for a surprise landmark, a castle in the middle of no where, that a love struck couple from Quebec built.
We visited Peggy's Cove which is one of the most picturesque and photographed places in Canada.

Joanne would have been very disappointed with our trip to the Maritimes if we did not find a roadside clam truck and have fresh deep fried clams.

We spent a day driving around the many bays and inlets of the rugged Nova Scotia coast. We visited the villages of Chester and Mahone Bay.

The island where Neil and Halina live is a close community with very friendly neighbours. A boat tour and a fabulous dinner was organized. Big thanks to Pam and Grant for the boat tour of St Margaret's Bay!

It was wonderful to see Neil and Halina again and get to know their friends and their part of the country.
