Today Real Estate – Wednesday, January 14, 2010

We decide to stay at our apartment and explore the Tranquilla ( the area that we drove through yesterday on our way back from Puerto Vallarta) then go to Rincon de Guayabitas.

The weather is perfect, sunny and not too hot (about 25C). Each real estate office that we visit seems to just sell their listings only. We drive the unfamiliar areas of town and areas just outside town. A small road becomes an even smaller and bumpy road that twists through the dense jungle and finally ends in a group of large homes that are high in the mountains with spectacular ocean views. A caretaker of one home that is almost finished allows us in the villa, pool area and gardens. What a view! The outdoor living areas of the villa, the jungle vegetation, mountains and ocean view remind us of when we lived in Montserrat. This area is definitely out of our league.

Another real estate agent in town tells us of a partially finish place high on a hill near town. We decide to try and find it on our way to Rincon de Guayabitas. The drive up is a steep single lane road through large villas. The road that leads to the unfinished house is short but not drivable and overgrown. Wow, this has huge possibilities!

A view of the ocean,

a valley with tropic vegetation beside you and any new construction on the neighbouring properties will not block the views. The place is small but there is enough land to expand. This is too good to be true, something must be wrong.

After a seafood lunch on the beach we meet with the real estate agent and discover the problems. The property is not Titled, it is El Ejido which means that it can only be owned by a foreigner through a Mexican citizen. It is more complicated than this but I will spare you the details. The other problem is the short road beside the property is part of the vacant lot at the end of the road. We have rights to use the road but if we wanted to use the road we would have to fix it up. We agree to meet with the real estate agent tomorrow.

It is now late afternoon too late to go to Rincon de Guayabitas, I go surfing and Joanne works on the blog and relaxes at the wonderful apartment.

  1. Enjoying the photos and commentary. Pity poor Jo and that Montezuma's Revenge. Glad to hear the tequila cure is working. We've got beach envy.Keep up the posts.
